General Guidelines: Deadlines for submissions are May 31st for the June 15th issue and November 30th for the December 15th issue. AvantAppal(achia) accepts submissions from around the world, with a slight emphasis on Appalachian artists. Things we will NOT accept include holiday-themed work, overtly political work, or anything containing profanity, erotica, or gratuitous sex. Since Word embeds formatting, we ask that you refrain from using fancy fonts or formatting unless these are important to your work. Even then, we cannot guarantee that these will be compatible with the website. We will do our best. Please include a concise bio with your submission, including which state or country you currently live in. Audio submissions must be first uploaded to Soundcloud.com and the embed code included in the submission email along with the link for us to listen to the recording to make our decision. Please make sure the privacy settings for that recording are set to public. Video files must be first uploaded to Youtube.com and the embed code included in the email along with the link for us to watch the video to make our decision. - AvantAppal(achia)'s Youtube channel: if you do not have a Youtube channel of your own from which to host videos, you may send the video to us in your email. When you do, we will upload it to our Youtube channel in order to host it for the is(sue) in question. Once that is(sue) is taken down, it is up to you as the copyright owner whether we should delete that video from our channel or continue to host it as long as the ezine exists. Simply let us know in your email. - If the work is computer-based, we will accept HTML code, as long as we can see what that code will produce, and both the code and how to use it are clearly and simply explained in the submission email. We cannot guarantee that the code will work with the website. *** If you are submitting work to more than category, please send separate emails for each category. *** We will reply to submissions with suggestions and encouragement only if time allows. Send only your best, previously uncurated work (see this article for more infornation on what we mean by "previously uncurated": litmagnews.substack.com/p/uncurated-the-case-for-a-new-term?fbclid=IwAR38lVA06jOZo3GAL7NFCSjlqXpBFcF7R4-p6PeElI00iuB9d7wUE_aBsNE). Copyright for all materials published on this website remain with the creating artist/poet/author, but we do ask that AvantAppal(achia) be credited if/when the work is republished elsewhere. Any withdrawal of submissions by the artist, poet, or author will NOT be allowed once the reading period begins. The reading period is defined as the 15 days following the deadline date and ending with the date that the is(sue) goes live. Since space is limited, one (1) published work in each category per issue will be permanently archived on the website as determined by the category ed(itor). Appal(Trad) poems and Avant(Serial) novels will not be archived. Submissions should be sent to avantappalachia@gmail.com Failure to comply with any of these guidelines will result in immediate rejection. |
